NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday alleged that Delhi Police detained its leaders during protests demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party vowed not to be intimidated by the action.In a series of posts on X, CJP named Ankit Bharadwaj, Anam, Mukesh All-rounder, Balakrishna and Sudhir Sangwan as those detained while allegedly protesting peacefully. The organisation also claimed that its team was being harassed by the police.“Detain us, arrest us, do whatever you can! We will not be intimidated. This is just the beginning. We will continue fighting until all our demands are met,” CJP post reads.In another post, the organisation alleged that the police action against its members was continuing. “Brutality Continues! Delhi Police have detained CJP’s team and are harassing us,” it said.The party also declared that it would not back down, describing the developments as “the beginning of the end of this dictatorship”.

On Saturday, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were reportedly detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after arriving from Mumbai.They were released earlier on Sunday, on condition that they would not “breach peace” for a year, CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh said.More than 7,000 protesters were also detained at multiple locations, preventing them from reaching Jantar Mantar, police sources said. Several opposition leaders, including former chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, were also detained while attempting to join the protest.The CJP renewed its call for a protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday as police continued security arrangements across the city. More than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were to be deployed, according to the report.
