Surrender before December 1: Supreme Court cancels bail of expelled JD(U) leader Anant Singh in Dularchand Yadav murder case | India News
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail granted to expelled JD(U) MLA Anant Singh in the murder case of Dularchand Yadav and directed him to surrender before the authorities on or before December 1, 2026.A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PV Varale observed that the Patna High Court had erred in granting Singh bail without adequately considering the nature of the offence and his criminal antecedents. The top court suspended the High Court’s order and cancelled the relief granted to Singh. The verdict comes days after the ruling Janata Dal (United) expelled Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, from the party for six years over alleged anti-party activities.Singh had openly defied the party leadership by campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Kumar Singh instead of the JD(U)’s official nominee, Neeraj Kumar, in the Patna Graduates’ constituency Legislative Council elections. He also reportedly made remarks against senior party leaders and questioned the functioning of the party leadership.Following the expulsion, the Bihar government stripped Neelam Devi of her position on the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee, withdrawing her minister of state rank and entitlement to an official bungalow. On October 26, the state government’s Building Construction Department issued an eviction notice directing her to vacate her official residence at 1, Mall Road in Patna. The JD(U) has also approached Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar seeking Singh’s disqualification under the anti-defection law. The petition was filed under the direction of party state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha.

Singh, however, claimed that the incident was part of a political conspiracy orchestrated by a rival politician. He alleged that Jan Suraaj supporters had attacked his convoy first.Bihar Police arrested Singh on November 1, 2025, and lodged him in Beur Central Jail. Despite being in custody, he contested and won the Mokama Assembly seat on a JD(U) ticket. The Patna high court granted him bail on March 19, 2026, following which he was released from prison. The bail order was subsequently challenged in the Supreme Court in October by Neeraj Kumar, the grandson of Dularchand Yadav.
