Lost both parents, studied under kerosene lamp, yet excelled in studies: Meet Vikram Chhetri, a teen who shined bright through the darkness
Life isn’t so kind for everyone. Some face the harshest realities far too early. Vikram Chhetri, a teenager from Assam could not grow up resting his head on his mom’s lap. The child lost his mother when he was just 2, and years later, at the age of 11, the boy lost his father too. Despite all the sorrows life threw at him, Vikram thrived, and now the child has achieved something that most don’t achieve even with the support of their parents.

Vikram achieved an impressive score in class 12th
Hailing from Assam’s Sonitpur District, Vikram Chhettri scored an impressive 89.4% in class 12th with Arts stream. The child achieved this all while he also managed other household responsibilities. Vikram also has an elder brother, who lives away from home due to financial constraints. Other than his brother’s earnings, Vikram survives through the government aid provided for orphaned children. Financial help certainly helps him go by, but the struggles don’t end with that.
Vikram’s house didn’t have electricity until recently…

Vikram lives in the modest two-room house located in a Nepali locality near Dhekiajuli town. The house he lives in, built nearly two decades ago under the Indira Awas Yojana, still lacks basic facilities. Even today, parts of the house remain incomplete with no electricity connection. For years, he studied under kerosene lamps and a small solar light because his home had no electricity.Just two months before his exams, the community stepped in to support him. With the help of his school principal and other locals, electricity was finally installed at his home.Vikram completed his primary education at a government school about a kilometre from his home, and later passed 10th standard from Dhekiajuli Don Bosco High School with 80% marks. He completed his 12th from Lakshminath Bezbaroa Academy.
He sees the future with bright eyes
Even when life took so much from him, Vikram never lost hope and still looks towards the future with a bright light in his eyes. According to local news outlet, Pratidin Time, when asked about his future aspirations, Vikram said, “I want to become successful, serve my community, and make Assam proud.”

Vikram Chhetri’s journey is not just a story about academic success; it is a story of resilience, courage, and hope. His achievement stands as a powerful reminder that even the darkest circumstances cannot stop a determined mind from shining. Today, the teenager has become an inspiration for countless others silently fighting their own battles.
