The highly anticipated fourth instalment in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise – ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ – is already off to a record-breaking start at the box office, just a day after opening its advance ticket sales. The film that brings back Tom Holland as Peter Parker in the next chapter of the Marvel superhero franchise has reportedly hit a major box office milestone and scored the strongest first-day US presales for any film in the past five years.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ among highest first-day presales
As per a report on Deadline, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has surpassed the first-day presale performance of several major recent superhero releases, including ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, which went on to debut with USD 187.4 million domestically in 2022.The film’s pre-sales have reportedly been the best since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which raked in an estimated USD 78 million in presales before delivering a massive USD 260.1 million domestic opening weekend and went on to gross over USD 1.92 billion worldwide during its theatrical run.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ vs ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
‘No Way Home’ also holds the record for the second-biggest opening weekend in North American box office history, trailing only behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which opened to an estimated USD 357.1 million. Meanwhile, the film’s worldwide opening amounted for USD 600.5 million, making it the third-largest global debut of all time behind ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with an earning of USD 1.22 billion and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ with an earning of USD 640.5 million.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to have no IMAX releases
Notably, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has managed to set the cash registers ringing, despite not having access to IMAX screens during its launch. As per reports, the premium-format theatres have been locked in for a three-week screening deal with Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’.Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is scheduled to open on July 31.
