The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will travel in July, with key dates around the upcoming Invictus Games. This is a potential turning point in family relations as King Charles opened his doors to his younger son and family in royal accommodation.PEOPLE reports that King Charles extended royal hospitality to his younger son and family, allowing them to stay on a royal property. Harry and Meghan plan to bring their two children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5) to the U.K. in July. King Charles extends accommodation offer to Prince Harry and family

King Charles, 77, offered his younger son and his family accommodation on a royal estate. However, there has been no response to the offer so far. On previous occasions, the monarch offered Harry accommodation at Buckingham Palace, which he declined. The act expressed the King’s goodwill in granting the visit, despite the power struggle in the royal family.Even if Prince Harry and his family stayed at a royal residence, there would be no additional security provisions, which the Home Office decides. After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal roles in 2020, they lost their tax-funded police protection—a matter Harry fought in court to reinstate, citing safety concerns in his home country.

Prince Harry expresses safety concerns about bringing family to the U.K.

The Duke of Sussex stressed he did not feel safe bringing his family to the U.K. In a statement to the High Court in London, Prince Harry said that he needed security for his two children “to feel at home” in his native country. “The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States,” Harry said. “That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”

He further added, “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.” The security issue has been a point of contention in the ongoing rift between Prince Harry and the rest of his family. No plans for a reunion between Prince Harry and King Charles during the potential U.K. visit have been confirmed, but the pair has met before during such trips.

Prince Harry speaks of desire for reconciliation with family

Prince Harry had previously expressed his hopes for mending family relationships. “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he told the BBC last year. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he continued, seemingly referring to the King’s cancer diagnosis, which was announced in 2024. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile. The last time the father and son met was on September 10, 2025, at the King’s London home when Harry was in the U.K. for the Wellchild Awards and Invictus Games events. They met for a private, 55-minute conversation, marking their first in-person meeting in 19 months. Prince Harry had returned to the U.K. on several occasions since stepping back from his royal role, but Meghan and their children had not been there since 2022.
