The finale of the latest Harlan Coben adaptation, ‘I Will Find You,’ concludes with an unexpected but earned romantic moment between two of its central characters. At the New York City premiere, star Britt Lower opened up about the significance of the ending and what it represents for her character, Rachel Mills and her on-screen partner, David Borroughs, portrayed by Sam Worthington. The series follows David as he works alongside Rachel, a dedicated journalist, to locate his young son Matthew, whom he was wrongfully convicted of killing years earlier. The investigation takes a dramatic turn when evidence suggests the boy may actually still be alive. The finale brings this journey to a conclusion that is both emotionally resonant and quietly hopeful.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere, Lower reflected on the final scene in which her character and Worthington’s David are shown holding hands. Rather than a grand romantic gesture, the moment is understated and meaningful, reflecting the emotional journey both characters have endured.“I think it’s such a beautiful, quiet moment, and it’s really earned from what they’ve been through together,” Lower told the publication. She went on to describe the broader context of the finale, painting a picture of a family finding stability after profound trauma.

“The whole family is together, Matthew’s holding his little sister, and I think you get a sense that this family’s going to move on, one step at a time,” Lower said. The happiness of this family reunion, however, comes in the aftermath of significant tragedy, as the series reveals that Milo Ventimiglia‘s character, Hayden, was responsible for abducting David’s son five years prior.

The long road to healing for the characters

Lower acknowledged the psychological toll the events would take on the reunited family while emphasising the strength they would draw from facing recovery together. “They’re going to, probably, need a lot of therapy, but they’re going to do it together,” the 40-year-old actress said. “That moment, I think, is a nice, quiet gesture.”Her conclusion is the show’s conclusion: a quiet nod toward connection and commitment between two people who have shared extraordinary circumstances.

Britt Lower’s attraction to the role and Harlan Coben’s storytelling

It’s no surprise that Lower is returning to the screen in the project, as her past accomplishments with ‘Severance’ are impressive. She explained that her excitement about joining the cast was partly rooted in her admiration for creator Harlan Coben and his distinctive approach to storytelling.

“I was really excited. There’s like sci-fi, there’s Western, and then there’s the Harlan Coben genre, and it was really exciting to be a part of,” Lower said of the author. “It’s a very active role. Rachel is a boots-on-the-ground, very hands-on journalist. She has a fire in her belly, and she’s really committed to integrity.”Lower went on to articulate what drew her to the character herself, emphasising Rachel’s moral clarity and her role within the emotional ecosystem of the narrative. “I really admired her point of view,” she said. “She has a strong moral compass, and she’s just part of this really tight-knit family. She loves her sister, and she really believes in David’s humanity from the start.”

The open-ended nature of Rachel Mills and David Borroughs’s future

The series ends with some questions left unanswered about how David and Rachel’s relationship will develop in the future. But Lower has said she sees this ambiguity as a quality of the story, not a detriment. Speaking to the platform’s official site, she elaborated on why she appreciated the show’s choice to end on a moment of quiet reflection rather than providing definitive closure.

“I love that the show ends there — in that quiet, reflective moment rather than a neat resolution,” Lower said. “Rachel and David have both been through profound loss and come out the other side with a deeper understanding of who they are and what really matters. They showed up fully — for Matthew, for their family, for each other — during the hardest chapter of their lives. That’s a pretty extraordinary foundation for whatever comes next. I think they face it with their eyes open.”The series is now streaming on Netflix, allowing audiences to witness the complete arc of David and Rachel’s journey from investigation through reconciliation.
