Akshay Kumar is gearing up to explore a fresh genre with ‘Samuk’, a film that takes him into alien-themed territory. Filming has commenced on the ambitious survival-action thriller, which brings on board an international creature and stunt team as it aims to be one of India’s biggest theatrical genre spectacles. The project is directed by Kanishk Varma, whose credits include ‘Glory’, ‘Gaanth’, ‘Shoorveer’, ‘Inside Edge S3’, ‘Sanak’ and ‘FootFairy’ and is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A. Shah as co-producer.
‘Samuk’ in development for over two years
The movie is being planned as a big-budget, pan-Indian theatrical release with an eye on global reach. Development has been underway for more than two years, during which Varma and Shah have built a world that fuses military realism, survival horror and alien mythology.

Akshay Kumar teams up with global creature and action crew
With ‘Samuk’, that instinct carries him into fresh territory, uniting a massively popular Indian star with a creature and action team pulled together from across the globe, and shaping the entire film around that pairing.The film has brought on board Academy Award-nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis, known for his work on the “Alien and Predator” franchises and “Alien: Romulus,” who has designed the film’s central alien alongside a team of international technicians. British action director Luke Tumber has also joined the project, designing and directing the action sequences to give the film a physically intense action style.
