NEW DELHI: Students living in paying guest accommodations across Delhi are being asked to flag structural and fire safety gaps through an ABVP survey launched Wednesday after the Satya Niketan tragedy, as the organisation presses for inspections and accountability.Under its “Aakhir Kab Tak?” campaign, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers visited PGs in student-dominated areas, asking residents to scan a QR code on the campaign website, nomoresatyaniketan.in, and undertake a safety self-assessment.ABVP said it would compile the findings and approach authorities to seek corrective action within a fixed timeframe. It is demanding structural and fire safety audits of all PGs and other student accommodations in these areas, along with compliance with prescribed norms.The outreach campaign follows Tuesday’s “Student Safety March”, which ABVP said drew around 10,000 participants. Its agitation seeking the MCD commissioner’s resignation over the tragedy continues.

“Basic safety cannot be treated as a matter of paperwork or routine compliance,” ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma said. “Through this campaign, we are taking the issue directly to students and documenting the gaps that exist on the ground.”

Sharma said the organisation would use the data to press authorities for corrective measures and greater accountability, stressing that PGs were homes for students living away from their families.A tribute meeting was also held in memory of the students who died. ABVP national organising secretary Ashish Chauhan, NCWEB director Geeta Bhatt, Delhi University representatives and members of student and teacher organisations attended and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
