When Dr. Madhu Gottumukkala began his academic journey in Andhra Pradesh, he could not have known it would take him to the helm of one of the United States’ most critical cybersecurity agencies. At present, he is the Acting Director, as well as the Deputy Director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). This agency is in the forefront of protecting the digital and physical infrastructures of the nation. Dr. Gottumukkala began his educational journey by obtaining a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from Andhra University. Over more than two decades, Dr. Gottumukkala has worked in both private and public sectors. In the private sector, he led teams in telecommunications, wireless technologies, unified communications, and health IT. These roles offered him insight into large-scale IT operations, problem-solving across industries, and implementing new technologies.His career in the public sector took off when he was appointed as the states Chief Technology Officer of South Dakota, being the second person ever to hold this position. He was involved in increasing the use of modern technology in state systems, improving their efficiency, and finding innovative ways to enhance public services. In addition, he served as Commissioner and Chief Information Officer for the Bureau of Information and Technology, where he led statewide IT and cybersecurity initiatives.
