A case has been registered against three persons for allegedly cheating Bollywood actor and filmmaker Deepak Tijori of Rs 2.5 lakh on the pretext of arranging funds for his upcoming film, a police official said on Thursday, as reported by PTI.According to the police, Tijori was actively looking for financial backing for a new project when a friend introduced him to one of the accused, who claimed to be associated with a music company and capable of helping with funding.
‘Producer’ promised investors, demanded money
In February last year, Tijori was introduced to another accused, a woman who claimed to be a film producer. She allegedly assured him that she could arrange investors for the film and demanded Rs 5 lakh to facilitate the process.Tijori reportedly paid Rs 2.5 lakh as the first instalment. The accused allegedly promised to provide a “Letter of Interest” from a well-known content company within a week and even signed an “agreement” to that effect, the official said.
No letter, no response
However, the promised document was never delivered. The accused allegedly began avoiding Tijori’s calls and messages soon after receiving the money. Suspecting foul play, the actor realised he had been duped and approached the police.Based on his complaint, filed last month at the Bangur Nagar police station, a case was registered against three individuals. All the accused will be summoned for questioning, and an investigation is currently underway, the official added.
