Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and rainfall in lower areas of Ladakh’s Kargil district have affected normal life across several parts of the region since last night, with authorities reporting disruptions to traffic and urging commuters to remain cautious, newsonair reported. According to officials, continuous snowfall has been reported from high-altitude areas including Zanskar, Sankoo and Drass, while rain lashed many lower areas of the district. The fresh spell of precipitation has led to disruptions in vehicular movement along the Srinagar–Leh National Highway (NH-1D), the key route that connects the Union Territory of Ladakh with the rest of the country.

However, officials said that the snowfall at several points along the highway has affected the movement of traffic, and it is being monitored by the authorities. Any kind of weather disturbance along the highway, which passes through the mountains, may cause a delay in the movement of people along the highway. Meanwhile, academic activities have resumed in the region as schools reopened after the winter vacation. Local residents say the precipitation will help improve soil moisture levels, which is beneficial for early cultivation activities in the region’s short farming cycle. The weather department has predicted that rain and snowfall may continue in several parts of the district through the day. In the coming days, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy across parts of Ladakh. Authorities have advised residents and travellers to stay updated with local weather advisories and road condition updates as the situation continues to evolve.
