In a recent update, Uttarakhand’s high Himalayan region around Adi Kailash and Om Parvat have transformed into a breathtaking white wonderland. However, the dramatic change in scenery has also brought some serious travel issues. The region has received several feet of snow, roads have narrowed under accumulated snow and a sudden rush of tourists resulted in a massive traffic jam at an altitude of around 14,500 feet.As per reports, hundreds of tourists and vehicles were caught in heavy traffic jams over the weekend. A long queue of vehicles formed amid heavy snowfall, with some tourists reportedly stranded for hours. The traffic queue stretched for around 1.5 to 2 km.Adi Kailash covered in heavy snow

Adi Kailash is a revered destination associated with Lord Shiva. Situated in Pithoragarh district, Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund are among the prime attractions of the region. As per reports, the Adi Kailash region has received around three to four feet of snow in recent days. Snow has accumulated on either side of the roads, leaving some stretches considerably narrower than usual. The combination of heavy snowfall, restricted road width and a sharp increase in tourist vehicles contributed to the traffic congestion. The snowfall has dramatically changed the beauty around Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. Mountain slopes, valleys and roads have been covered in white, creating the kind of Himalayan scenery that attracts pilgrims, photographers and adventure travellers. One of the striking sights from the region is the freezing of the sacred Parvati Kund near Adi Kailash as temperatures dropped below freezing. The long traffic jamThe unusual traffic situation was caused by several reasons rather than just snowfall. Heavy snow accumulated along the route, while a large number of pilgrims and tourists travelled towards Adi Kailash over the weekend to experience the snow-covered landscape. The snow piled up along both sides of the road, reducing the usable road width. At the same time, the sudden increase in vehicles resulted in long queues at an altitude where weather conditions can change quickly.BRO working to clear the snowMeanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been working to clear the affected roads and restore traffic movement in the region. Reports said BRO personnel were removing accumulated snow from the route, although the snow piled along the roadside has made some stretches narrower.A spiritual journey in a dramatic Himalayan setting

Adi Kailash and Om Parvat have become increasingly popular among travellers seeking a combination of spirituality and Himalayan scenery. Unlike conventional hill stations, however, these destinations lie in a remote border region and require considerably more preparation.Check conditions before leavingThose planning an Adi Kailash or Om Parvat trip anytime soon should check the latest road and pilgrimage status before starting the journey. Weather forecasts, road-clearance updates and local administrative advisories are particularly important.Travellers must carry adequate winter clothing, essential medicines, food and water, and avoid making tight travel connections because delays are possible when snow blocks or narrows mountain roads. Most importantly, visitors should follow instructions from local authorities and road agencies rather than attempting to drive through blocked or unsafe stretches.
