'Unacceptable abuse of power': CJP

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke earlier alleged that Lamba had also assaulted activist Sonam Wanghchuk’s wife Geetanjali during the protest.“He is the same officer who climbed on the truck to hit Geetanjali Wangchuk before we all jumped in to save her. Later he grabbed her hair. Sandeep Lamba is not mentally fit to serve in the police,” Dipke claimed.Opposition demanded strict actionCongress general secretary KC Venugopal accused the Centre of sanctioning police excesses. “This is the true face of Amit Shah’s goons in uniform,” he wrote, alleging that police officers assaulted women students, removed their badges while beating protesters, and encouraged plain-clothed individuals to attack demonstrators.“This level of brazenness cannot happen without sanction from the very top. Amit Shah cannot continue in his post. He has blood on his hands,” Venugopal said.Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also reacted strongly, saying the officer should face legal and social consequences. “No! He was not just doing his job! We need to name, shame and ensure social boycotts for each of these brutes and take them to court.
