DMK chief M K Stalin warns TVK govt against Hindi imposition, defends two-language policy | India News
CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Friday issued a strong warning to the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK govt, accusing it of surrendering TN’s interests by attempting to impose Hindi in the state. In a social media post, Stalin said TN had traditionally fought against Hindi imposition by the Union govt, but the ruling TVK administration was now carrying out the same agenda. He questioned whether this reflected the “change” promised by the TVK leader and his govt.Stalin’s reaction came in response to news reports about a name board on State Highway 93 carrying the names of Tirunelveli, Alwarthirunagari, Thoothukudi and Tiruchendur in Hindi, along with English and Tamil. The use of Hindi was against the state’s decades-old two-language policy.

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday declared that severe action would be taken against officials acting against the state’s long-standing two-language policy, according to an official statement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).The DIPR statement added that two officials from the state highways department have been placed under suspension, with departmental action initiated against them regarding the matter. The DMK chief criticised the government’s functioning, alleging that it routinely makes policy moves, tests public reaction, and executes a U-turn when faced with opposition.Accusing the TVK administration of running a “reels govt” focused on targeting social media influencers from northern states, Stalin cautioned the ruling party to recognize the risks involved and immediately alter its approach.Emphasizing that the two-language policy is central to Tamil Nadu’s identity, Stalin warned the government against compromising on the issue. He concluded his post with the hashtag #StopHindiImposition.
