Actress Keerthy Suresh received huge acclaim for her portrayal of legendary actress Savitri in the biographical drama ‘Mahanati’. However, the film’s success did not immediately bring her the new offers she expected. Instead, the actress found herself staying at home for six months, a period that helped her rethink her career and personal life.

Keerthy Suresh opens up about life after ‘Mahanati’

In a conversation with News18, Keerthy Suresh shared that her performance in ‘Mahanati’ changed how filmmakers viewed her as an actress. She felt they were looking for more substantial roles for her rather than the characters she had played earlier.

Why Keerthy Suresh did not receive film offers

“It’s very funny. I believe that I wasn’t getting film offers because people were confused about where to place me. After ‘Mahanati’, they couldn’t see me through the same lens that they were earlier seeing me with. They knew that they had to bring something meaty to me. It was a nice feeling and I took it in the right way,” she said. The actress also admitted that she needed a break after working continuously for several years. However, she became concerned when she realised that her financial stability was being affected.“First of all, I needed a break at that time because I was working back-to-back. In a way, I was happy until I realised that my financial stability was going for a toss. But in those six months, I started doing nicer things,” she recalled.

‘Mahanati’ changed Keerthy Suresh’s career choices

Keerthy Suresh before ‘Mahanati’ mostly appeared in commercial films and played girl-next-door characters. The actress said she had not taken on many demanding, performance-driven roles before the biographical drama.“Before Mahanati happened, I was doing a lot of commercial films, where I was playing the girl-next-door – somebody who comes, does a little bit and goes off. It’s not like I had done heavy performance-driven roles before Mahanati,” she said. On the other hand, she will be next seen in ‘Akka’, working alongside Radhika Apte.
