Kharge writes to PM Modi: Call all-party meet on delimitation bill | India News
NEW DELHI: Amid speculation of govt planning a special session of Parliament to pass delimitation bill, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Friday wrote to PM Narendra Modi, urging him to convene an all-party meeting to discuss Constitution Amendment bill. He said any far-reaching legislation on important issues, such as delimitation, must be discussed before being brought to Parliament.Alluding to the possibility of a special session, Kharge noted that 64 days have passed since Parliament’s monsoon session was adjourned sine die on Aug 13, but Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have not been prorogued yet. He called it an “unprecedented scenario”.

Kharge underlined to PM that this is his fourth request for an all-party meeting. He said the first plea came on April 11, which went unheeded, and govt brought the delimitation bill in Parliament on April 16. He said the bill failed to muster two-third majority by a decisive margin. Kharge noted that he wrote to the PM for all-party meetings again on July 16 and Aug 27.“Please convene an all-party meeting to have a detailed discussion on your new proposals before they are finalised for consideration in Parliament. All l parties must get sufficient time to deliberate among themselves, with each other and with all other stakeholders. Please do not once again try and bulldoze a far-reaching Constitutional Amendment Bill through Parliament as you attempted earlier and that met its well-deserved fate,” he said.
