‘Possession’ remake in progress, Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner cast to lead new film - Report

‘Possession’ starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill in the lead role was one of the biggest horror films of its time. It got the lead actress an award for Best Actress and got the entire team a lot of critical acclaim. Now, almost 45 years later, the film is being remade with a brand new cast and story in mind, and the leads have already been selected.

Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner join the cast for ‘Possession’ remake

According to a recent report from Vanity Fair, ‘The Substance’ actress and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ actor are set to lead the brand-new project. The two stars, as per the report, have been cast to lead the film, which is currently in its development phase. As per the report, the remake is also being produced by Parker Finn, known for his work on the gore-horror film ‘Smile’, and Robert Pattinson.

Finn, while talking ot SFX Magazine in 2024 about the remake, talked about how big of an inspiration ‘Possession’ was for him and how great of a horror film he believes it to be. He cited “It’s early days, but we’re incredibly excited about this completely bonkers movie. Possession is one of my favorite films of all time, and so what was really important to me was that we were honoring the original and staying true to its absolute frenzied, manic ferocity.”

About the cult horror classic from 1981, ‘Possession’

Released in 1981, this horror film was directed by Andrzej Żuławski. The storyline follows an international spy, Mark, whose wife, Ana, asks him for a divorce. He, however, thinks that she may be having an affair with someone and hires a private investigator to look into the matter. Things take a turn for the worse, however, when Ana starts acting strangely after her request for a divorce. The cast for the old film included names like Isabelle Adjani, Sam Neill, Michael Hogben, Johanna Hofer, Kerstin Wohlfahrt, Heinz Bennent, Margit Carstensen, and Carl Duering to name a few.
