PV Sindhu wins second title of 2026, keeps BWF World Tour Finals hopes alive with Hylo Open triumph

NEW DELHI: Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu continued her impressive late-season run by clinching the Hylo Open Super 500 title with a commanding straight-game victory over Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjærsfeldt in the final on Sunday. The second-seeded Indian defeated the world No. 25 and eighth seed 21-12, 21-14 in just 39 minutes to claim her second title of the season. The triumph in Saarbrücken, Germany, also earned Sindhu 9,200 ranking points, keeping her in contention for a place at the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. The 31-year-old had won the Japan Open in July and finished runner-up at the French Open last week. Her victory on Sunday capped another strong week, following her run to the final in Paris, and underlined her consistency as the season approaches its conclusion.Sindhu came into the summit clash with a dominant 6-1 head-to-head record against Kjærsfeldt, whose only previous victory over the Indian had come at the 2025 Sudirman Cup Finals.

Sindhu dominates final to secure second title

A former world champion, Sindhu displayed control and precision throughout the final, using her attacking strokes and court coverage to keep the Danish shuttler under pressure. She dictated the exchanges from the outset and opened up a comfortable lead in the first game. Kjærsfeldt struggled to match the Indian’s pace and accuracy as Sindhu wrapped up the opening game 21-12.The second game followed a similar pattern. Sindhu maintained her composure, controlled the rallies and prevented her opponent from building any sustained momentum. She eventually converted her advantage into a 21-14 win to seal the title in 39 minutes.

Second successive final after French Open run

Sindhu had entered the Hylo Open final after defeating compatriot Anmol Kharb in straight games in Saturday’s semifinal. The Indian registered a 21-13, 21-16 victory over the 19-year-old in 32 minutes to reach her second final in as many weeks. Anmol, ranked world No. 53, was appearing in only her second Super 500 semifinal.Sindhu’s experience, attacking game and precise net play proved decisive against the young Indian, who briefly threatened to put pressure on her in both games but could not sustain the challenge. After finishing runner-up in Paris, Sindhu went one step further in Germany. The 9,200 ranking points from the Hylo Open are significant in her pursuit of qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals, where the season’s leading players compete.
