The long-awaited first teaser trailer for ‘Shrek 5’ has finally arrived, and fans of the franchise have had a lot to say.Released by Universal Pictures on Tuesday, the teaser gives audiences a glimpse of a much older and wrinkled Shrek and Donkey as they set out on their latest adventure, more than a decade later.The upcoming instalment sees the return of franchise veterans Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Fiona. Joining them are Zendaya, Saturday Night Live comedian Marcello Hernandez and Skylar Gisondo, who voice Shrek and Fiona’s children – Felicia, Fergus and Farkle.

The trailer opens with a storybook narration reintroducing audiences to the unlikely trio. As the story unfolds, the gang embarks on another journey through Far Far Away, encountering a series of new characters, including first looks at Shrek’s grown up kids and a picture of Donkey’s many kids with his dragon wife.

A section of fans questioned the updated animation style and character designs, with some arguing that the visuals looked noticeably different from earlier films. Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn Return

‘Shrek 5’ is being directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon has been closely associated with the series since its early years and is best known for voicing the Gingerbread Man, popularly known as Gingy, throughout the Shrek universe.Dohrn, meanwhile, worked as a writer and artist on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third before serving as Head of Story on Shrek Forever After. He also voiced the villain Rumpelstiltskin in the fourth film.

Shrek returns after 17 years

Shrek 5 marks the first film in the franchise since ‘Shrek Forever After’ was released in 2010. Although the series has remained alive through spin-offs such as ‘Puss in Boots’ (2011) and the critically acclaimed ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ (2022).
