Taylor Sheridan bought a 600-acre Texas ranch in 2013 as a family home; years later, Bosque Ranch is a film and TV production base, equine competition hub and concert venue with more than 150 horses | World News
American filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor Taylor Sheridan bought a 600-acre ranch in Weatherford, Texas, in 2013 as a family home. More than a decade later, the property has become a production location for his television projects.Known as Bosque Ranch, the property is about 40 miles from Fort Worth and serves as the headquarters of Bosque Ranch Productions, the company behind shows including Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Landman, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown. The ranch has also become closely tied to Sheridan’s interest in Western sports. It hosts cutting and reining competitions, including the annual NCHA Brazos Bash, and serves as the training centre of Kelby Phillips, the 2018 NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman rider.
From family home to filming location
Sheridan grew up in Texas and had planned to return to the state with his wife, actress Nicole Muirbrook, and their son, Gus.Speaking on the Rodeo Time podcast earlier this year, Sheridan said he had expected to step away from television after Yellowstone.“I was set up to retire. I was going to be done after Yellowstone. I’d bought the ranch in Weatherford, [Texas], and I paid cash. I didn’t owe anybody anything,” he said.He planned to spend more time riding horses and maintaining what he described as a “little hobby herd”.That did not happen.Sheridan continued expanding his television work, and the ranch itself became part of that business. In 2021, he began filming 1883, the Yellowstone prequel, at the property. The location reportedly became another revenue stream, with Paramount paying $50,000 a week to use the ranch for production, plus an additional $25 per cow, as per Elle Decor magazine. The property remains the family’s primary residence, although details of the home itself have not been made public.
A ranch built around horses
The entertainment business is only one part of Bosque Ranch. The 600-acre property operates as an equine facility, with facilities for professional horse competitions and training. More than 150 horses are associated with the ranch. Its events include cutting and reining competitions, sports that fit closely with Sheridan’s interest in Western culture and horsemanship. The ranch is also home to the annual NCHA Brazos Bash and serves as the training centre for Phillips, who won the 2018 NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman competition.
Sheridan’s expanding Texas footprint
Bosque Ranch is also part of a much larger collection of ranch properties Sheridan has acquired in recent years. His biggest purchase came in 2022, when he led a group that acquired the 266,000-acre Four Sixes Ranch in Texas for $330 million.Sheridan had previously said he intended to retire after Yellowstone. He signed major deals with Paramount and later agreed to a deal with NBCUniversal that could be worth as much as $1 billion, according to the magazine.
Production base
Sheridan bought the Weatherford property as a family home in 2013. It has since taken on a much larger role in his career.Today, the 600-acre Bosque Ranch serves as both a residence and a hub for TV production, equestrian events and live shows.
