Actress Revathy has emphasised that ensuring women’s safety in society requires more than asking women to be cautious about their surroundings. Speaking at the 6th Bharat Soka GSSI Women’s Awareness Seminar in Chennai, the actor highlighted the importance of raising boys with an understanding of respect, responsibility and the difference between right and wrong.The seminar was held at the Music Academy in Chennai on Sunday under the theme “Women in the Century: Awareness and Action.” It brought together women from different generations, including senior citizens and young girls, who spoke about personal struggles and how they transformed those challenges into achievements.
Revathy on raising boys the right way
While speaking to reporters at the event, as quoted by ANI, Revathy said conversations around women’s safety often place the responsibility on women themselves. She stressed that greater attention needs to be paid to what boys learn at home, in schools and in wider society.“On one hand, women are advised to be mindful of their safety, including where they should and should not go. But what is much more important is how we raise boys. We need to pay attention to what boys see and learn as they grow up at home, in schools and in society. Only by teaching them to clearly understand what is right and what is wrong can we bring about major changes in society,” said Revathy.Her comments focused on the need for a broader social approach to women’s safety, with families and educational institutions playing an important role in shaping how young boys understand behaviour, boundaries and respect.
Revathy highlights growing opportunities for women
Revathy also spoke about the increasing opportunities available to women across different fields, including the film industry. According to the actor, women today have greater access to opportunities, but their progress also depends on how they use those opportunities and build on their individual talents and abilities. Her remarks come at a time when conversations around women’s participation and representation across professional fields continue to evolve, with younger generations increasingly entering spaces that were less accessible to women in the past.
Revathy expresses confidence in Gen Z
The actor also expressed optimism about the present generation and said she believes Gen Z has the potential to accomplish things that previous generations could not.“I have a great deal of confidence that the present Gen Z generation will achieve and accomplish many things that our generation was unable to,” she said.

Having debuted in ‘Love’ opposite Salman Khan, the duo reunited in ‘Tiger 3’ where she was seen as Maithili Menon. Revathy was seen in ‘The Diplomat’ as the External Minister, ‘Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders’ as Dr. Rosie Panickerand in the Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Assi’ as Vasudha.
