Actors Dia Mirza and Siddharth were among those who publicly backed the cause, both currently seen together in the recently released ‘Operation Safed Sagar’.

Siddharth on speaking out without needing anyone’s permission

Speaking to News18 in a recent interview, the actor touched on the topic of celebrities speaking out on national issues, something he himself has never shied away from. He said, “I didn’t need anyone’s permission when I started speaking. I don’t need anyone’s permission to continue speaking. But the youth will always be the youth. Their places change. They’ll become older and look around and say, ‘Thank god, new young ones came to take our place.‘ And it will keep going forward.”Siddharth further spoke about how the youth movement has stayed relevant across generations, no matter the time period. According to him, young people don’t need permission, nor do they need advice from anyone else, to raise their voice on issues they care about.

Dia Mirza on what the older generation can learn from the youth

Dia also weighed in on the youth movement, pointing to what the older generation stands to learn from it. “We’ve a lot to learn from them. It depends on what you perceive as a cost. When you believe with all honesty that you want to work on ensuring that we’ve an echo chamber of kindness and everything you say and stand for comes from a place of love, then there’s really nothing to lose,” she said.

Dia Mirza had earlier voiced support for students’ right to protest

Earlier, Dia Mirza had voiced her support for the students’ right to protest, taking to Instagram to write, “Today has been a day that has revealed many truths. A day thousands of people showed up to mark their protest demanding accountability, transparency and reform for the education system. A day when the forces that are duty-bound to protect its citizens used brute force on them, including women and children, in reaction to their peaceful protest. Hopeful and angry.”

Siddharth had defended artists speaking on national issues before

Speaking to We Are Yuvaa in an earlier interview, Siddharth connected the students’ struggles to the exam paper leaks, stressing that no family should ever have to bear the loss of a child. He had also stood up for actors and public figures voicing their opinions on national issues, urging netizens to stop targeting artists simply for expressing their personal beliefs.
